These terms cover using the BBS Directory (bbsdirectory.org), run by 2600.network ("we", "us"), and the sysop accounts on it. By creating an account you agree to them. Browsing the directory and downloading its lists needs no account.
Your account
You need to be at least 16 to create an account. Give a real email address you can read, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else got into your account. You are responsible for what is done with it. One person per account.
Claiming a board
Only claim a board you run, or one its owner has asked you to manage. A claim has to be proven (a code on the board, a DNS record, a visit from the board's own address) or approved by us. We can refuse or undo a claim, and we decide disputes about who runs a board. A claimed board is not open to other claims; handing it over to someone else goes through us.
What you post
Descriptions, corrections and boards you submit stay yours. By posting them you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive permission to show, store, format and publish them as part of the directory, including in its downloadable lists, which anyone may copy and pass on. Copies of lists that have already been downloaded can't be recalled.
Submitting a board that isn't listed doesn't make you its owner. Owning a listing always takes a claim.
What isn't allowed
- anything illegal where you are or where we are
- sexually explicit text or images, or links to them. Saying a board has adult areas is fine; describing them explicitly is not. Nothing sexual involving minors, ever
- hate, harassment, threats, or personal information about other people
- spam, advertising that has nothing to do with the board, and malware or links to it
- false listings, pretending to be someone else, or claiming a board you don't run
- attacking or overloading this site or the boards in it, including using our checks to flood a board
Moderation
We review what is posted and may edit, hold back or remove any description, submission, listing or claim, and suspend or close accounts that break these terms, at our discretion. Facts about a board that anyone can see by calling it (its name, address, software, whether it answers) may stay listed whether or not it has been claimed; its sysop can ask us to hide it.
How we check boards
We connect to listed boards as a caller would, up to three times a day, and never log in. About explains exactly what the checks do.
No guarantees
The directory is provided as it is, for free. We try to keep it accurate and running but promise neither. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for losses from using it, from listings being wrong, or from the boards it lists, which we don't run.
Closing your account
You can ask us to close your account at any time ([email protected]). We may close accounts that break these terms. What you posted to listings may stay, under the permission above.
Changes
We may change these terms. If a change matters, we will email account holders before it takes effect; using your account after that means you accept it.
